Shimano Casitas Reel
-
Detail
The space age-looking Casitas baitcaster is another new face on the 2016 Shimano baitcaster lineup. There are two reels in the range and it’s all about gear ratios. The Casitas 150 has a gear ratio of 6.3:1 and recovers 67 centimetres of line with each turn of the handle, while the 150HG (High Gear), steps up the pace with a gear ratio of .2:1 and briskly puts 76 centimetres of line back aboard. The Cross Carbon Drag provides a wider range of settings, from light to stop, while remaining smooth throughout the range. Max’ drag is six kilos, which is heaps for what this reel was designed to do — throw lures at barra, , cod, yellowbelly, flathead, tailor, salmon and the like. 150 metres of 15 kilo Power Pro should be more than enough capacity to deal with them. If not, you’ve got a nice fish on there! There are four SA-RB bearings and one roller bearing, the Lo Mass Spool keeps weight down and the spool turning smoothly, and a Click Centrifugal Cast Control means the Casitas remain sure-footed and dependable when throwing lures of different weights and varying degrees of aerodynamics.
